The Brynhild has a bioscanner that will detect native life (or lack thereof) and temperature on planets. The bioscan's a range is 200 ly (same as sensor sweep range), sweeping 20% of the planets in range per turn which do not belong to you. Though not a very expensive ship, it is only really good for this function.
