Comments

The Hive is a ship, a sort of Horwasp version of a "starbase". It is the heaviest Horwasp ship and is needed to take on tougher battleships and carriers in combat. It is very effective against battleships, e.g. being able to destroy several Dark Wings at full power, but it is less effective against carriers, sometimes failing to destroy a single one.

In order to be at full power, it must fill its cargo with 24,000 clans (equivalent of 2.4 m colonists). This makes it very heavy and fuel-consuming for movement. As a result, it is often better to move it empty to its destination to save fuel, and then fill it with clans harvested from a local native planet.

Hives can perform the Swarm mission, which sacrifices the ship and sends all clans to a target planet (set by waypoint) within 100 ly, which then initiate ground combat against the target planet.

Whenever any Hive comes within 100 light-years of a planet, a terror effect takes hold and the happiness of colonists and natives begins to drop. Happiness will drop -1 at 100 ly distance, and will drop an additional point every 10 ly closer the Hive gets (maximum -10 happiness within 10 ly). This effect is not cumulative with multiple hives and does not affect natives on unowned planets.

Notes

  • The number of Hives that a player controls is limited to the number of planets the player controls.
  • Hives over 5,000 kt cannot be towed.
  • Hives cannot be chunneled.
  • Like a starbase, the Hive will provide the attacker with only 2 PP for destroying it.

Addons

The Hive does not currently have any addon-exclusive abilities.
