Stack Ships is a Campaign-only ability for the Colonies of Man at Planets.nu. The ability allows pairs of certain ships to combine together and transform into one ship which combines their stats (mass, weapons, crew, etc.).

In order to stack ships together, select one of them and set the mission to "stack ships". The user interface will then give you a list of ships at that location that can be stacked. The ships in question must have the same engines and beams. If you want to create a ship with more torpedo tubes by converting one ship's fighter bays into torp tubes, it must be done at a starbase. The starbase must have enough torpedo launchers in storage of the same type to fill each empty bay/tube. Starships cannot be stacked if they're set to move.

Ships that can stack

Scorpius Class Light Carrier

Gemini Class Transport

Sagittarius Class Transport

Cygnus Class Destroyer

Patriot Class Light Carrier

Taurus Class Scout

Little Joe Class Escort

Some Recommended Ships for Stacking

Name Ship 1 Ship 2 Mass Engines Description
Scorpnus Scorpius Cygnus 405 kt 5 A heavy torp ship with 8 beams and 6 tubes.
Scorpiot Scorpius Patriot 405 kt 5 A heavy carrier with 6 beams and 8 bays.
Geminarius Gemini Sagittarius 239 kt 4 A carrier with 2 bays and large 700 kt large cargo hold. Good for making fighters.
Gemtriot Gemini Patriot 230 kt 3 A medium carrier with 7 bays. It is good as a combined freighter + warship, and making fighters.
Cygmini Gemini Cygnus 230 kt 3 A torp ship with 5 tubes. It is a powerful medium warship.
Cygriot Cygnus Patriot 180 kt 2 A powerful but somewhat light ship with an amazing 10 tubes. It can wreck any ship of a similar size.
Little Cyg Cygnus Little Joe 155 kt 2 A good, cheap sweeper with 10 beams. Its 4 tubes give it some combat ability.

Notes

When two ships stack together, they both cease to exist, and a new ship is created. So the new ship will have a new ID#. Also its primary enemy and mission will be reset. Any notes on the ship will be lost.

It is not yet clear when in the host order the stack ships mission takes place.
