Overview

The intent of planetary attack is to force starships and freighters to enter combat with the planet and or base.

The Problem

Ships and freighters are passing overhead without attacking the planet. and you would rather have the planet attack the enemy then suffer ground attacks from troops transporting down.

Operation Commands

Simply change Friendly Codes to either nuk or att. this will make the planet and ships in orbit enter combat.

  • nuk : Attack All Ships, Attack any ships in orbit even if they have no fuel.
  • att - Attack Fueled Ships, Attack any ships in orbit that have fuel.

The Defenses of the planet are combined with the defenses if any of the starbase to fight off the target. so be sure you have the defenses to manage this task.

Restrictions

  • This has no effect on ships with immunity such as any Rebel or Fascist ships and the Super Star Destroyer.
  • Birds also have planet immunity, but only in situations where their ships have no fuel. This prevents a Bird player from using the Super Spy mission to change the planet's friendly code to NUK. This will force the planet/starbase to attack a fuel-less ship (and probably lose), while any ships in orbit defending the planet will not attack the fuel-less ship.
  • This has no effect on cloaked ships as well (quite simply, you cant shoot what you dont see)

Remarks

  • The usefulness of this tactic, is basically limited to the size of the targets. freighters are of course no problem. smaller ships are easy as well. but to risk destruction of a planet and its Resources to attempt to Destroy capital ships would be foolish. unless the base is a starbase with extra defenses and Fighters, the odds of Destroying a captiol ship using these Friendly Codes are slim. best to let them pass you by and hope they dont ground assault. if they have you set to Primary Enemy on their ships then there is no need to bother with this tactic as combat will take place anyhow.

  • On another note: with the right amount of defenses it is possible to capture freighters and smaller ships using this tactic.
The above need testing, the planets nu doc says you can not capture a ship with a planet. LordLancelot (talk) 11:45, 3 November 2014 (PST)
