The Thorn has a cloaking device, has four torpedo tubes, and is fairly cheap, but it is not often built because the races that can built it often have better, more useful alternatives.

As of 2023, the D3 enjoys a -1 reduction PP cost (making it 2 in Standard). This is a significant improvement, as it makes it a very cheap PP cost for a Fury ship with a cloaking device and two engines. It can be used to cloak and tow, or to trade with other players, making it very useful for its PP cost. The other Fury cloakers are the Deth Spec (was 4 PP, now 3) and the D7 (5 PP). This PP reduction gives the D3 new life and purpose in the Fury fleet.
